Airtel has confirmed that iPhone users will be able to use the 5G networks soon.
“Right now 5G on iPhone is not working because Apple has not opened it. They have promised to open it soon,” Airtel’s Chief Technology Officer told at the India Mobile Congress event in New Delhi.
“Since Apple is testing 5G in India, we have set up a special networks for them to test it ,” he added. Airtel will not be sending an Over-the-air update to make 5G work on smartphones. Instead, the mobile handset companies needs to send out software update to enable 5G services on the device.
Right now, Airtel’s 5G services are active on 5G-ready smartphones for all major manufacturers. “You can buy an iPhone 14 today, but 5G will not work until Apple opens it,” he said.
