Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz named his son Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the kingdom's Prime Minister and his second son Prince Khalid as Defence Minister, a royal decree said on Tuesday.
Other positions included Prince Abdullah bin Bandar as Minister of the National Guard, Walid al-Samani as Minister of Justice, Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh as Minister of Islamic Affairs, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan as Minister of Culture, Prince Abdulazid bin Turki Al-Faisal as Minister of Sports, Tawfiq bin Fauzan Al-Rabiah as Minister of Hajj and Umrah and Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi as Minister of Commerce has been placed.
In addition, the King Salman will still be attending cabinet meetings. The 86-year-old king, became ruler in 2015 after spending more than two-and-a-half years as Crown Prince. Prince Mohammed changed Saudi Arabia in 2017, leading efforts to diversify the economy from reliance on oil, allowing women to drive and curbing the power of clerics in society.
