Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Tokyo to attend the funeral of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, said that Abe took Japan-India relations to a greater heights. He told PM Fumio Kishida that Japan is one of the most trusted and valued strategic partners of Indi and he is confident that India-Japan relations will deepen further under Kishida’s leadership. The state funeral started at 10.30 am after his widow, Akie Abe, entered the state funeral hall carrying an urn containing her husband’s ashes, placed in a wooden box.
Modi will join with several other global leaders to pay tributes to Abe former PM. Representatives from over 100 countries, including more than 25 heads of state are expected to attend Abe’s funeral on Tuesday. Tight security is in place for this event.
